OVERVIEW

How does a beard transplant surgery work?

At House of Saab, we offer advanced beard restoration using the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technique. This minimally invasive procedure involves harvesting individual hair follicles from a donor area—typically the back or sides of the scalp—and implanting them into the beard region to enhance density, shape, and overall appearance.

Each follicle is meticulously placed to match the natural growth pattern of facial hair, ensuring a seamless and natural-looking result. Whether you’re aiming to fill in patchy areas, define your beard’s contours, or achieve a fuller beard, our tailored approach caters to your specific needs.

Does it work on patchy beard?

beard transplant is highly effective for fixing patchy beards by filling in sparse areas with healthy hair follicles, typically taken from the back of the scalp. These follicles are implanted into the beard region using the FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) technique to ensure natural growth patterns. For patchy beards, the minimum number of grafts usually starts at 500 – 800, depending on the area that needs coverage.

DETAILS

What results and level of aftercare are expected?

Results from a beard transplant begin to appear within a few months, with full growth usually visible between nine to twelve months after the procedure. The transplanted hairs may initially shed, which is a normal part of the process, followed by new, permanent growth. Initial results become visible within a few months, with full growth typically achieved between 9 to 12 months post-procedure. The transplanted hairs are permanent and can be groomed just like natural facial hair.

FAQ

We do not offer free consultations. Our consultation fee is £500, which reflects the in-depth, medically led approach we take to Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplants. This fee includes your initial consultation with a hair restoration specialist, along with all pre-operative assessments necessary to determine your suitability for FUE. These include:

  • A full medical history review and health screening

  • Blood tests (CBC, liver/kidney function, glucose levels, infection screening)

  • Scalp and donor area analysis, including hair density, calibre, and miniaturisation assessment

  • Digital imaging and graft planning

  • A personalised surgical plan tailored to your goals

Our aim is to ensure that every FUE procedure is safe, effective, and designed with long-term success in mind. This comprehensive assessment process allows us to deliver consistently high standards of care.

A beard transplant may not be suitable for individuals with active hair loss conditions like alopecia areata, unmanaged trichotillomania (hair pulling disorder), poor donor hair availability, or certain skin or blood disorders. It’s also not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and heavy smokers may face slower healing. Candidates should have realistic expectations and be medically fit to undergo a minor surgical procedure.

The number of grafts required varies based on individual goals and existing facial hair. On average:

  • Moustache: 300–600 grafts

  • Goatee: 600–800 grafts

  • Sideburns: 300–500 grafts

  • Cheeks: 800–1,100 grafts

A full beard restoration may require between 2,500 to 3,000 grafts.

Absolutely. During your consultation, our specialists will design a beard shape that complements your facial features and aligns with your desired aesthetic. The plan is tailored to ensure natural and harmonious results

Mild redness, scabbing, and swelling are common in the first few days. Scabs typically fall off within 7–10 days, and most clients resume normal activities within 1–2 days. Shedding of transplanted hairs occurs around 2–4 weeks, with new growth starting after 3 months.

Initial growth becomes noticeable around 3 months post-procedure. Full, mature results are typically achieved between 9 to 12 months, revealing a dense and natural-looking beard.

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, ensuring minimal discomfort. Most patients report only mild soreness post-procedure, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.

As with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks, including infection, scarring, or uneven growth. However, these are rare, especially when the procedure is performed by experienced professionals. Following post-operative care instructions minimizes these risks.
