OVERVIEW

How does a hair transplant surgery work?

Does it work on alopecia?

Hair transplant surgery can be effective for androgenetic alopecia (male and female pattern baldness) but may not be suitable for all types of alopecia. It works best when there is a stable donor area with healthy hair follicles to transplant. However, in cases of alopecia areata, scarring alopecia, or diffuse unpatterned hair loss, a transplant may not be effective, as these conditions can affect both the donor and recipient areas. A thorough consultation with our hair restoration specialist is essential to determine if a transplant is the right option based on the type and severity of alopecia.

DETAILS

What results and level of aftercare are expected?

Hair transplant results develop gradually, with initial shedding of transplanted hair in the first few weeks. New growth typically begins around three to four months, with full results visible in six to twelve months. The final outcome is natural-looking, permanent hair restoration. Aftercare includes keeping the scalp clean, avoiding direct sun exposure, and refraining from strenuous activities for at least two weeks. Sleeping with the head elevated for a few days helps reduce swelling. Patients should also follow prescribed medications and avoid touching or scratching the scalp to ensure proper healing and optimal hair growth over time.

What are the side effects of this treatment?

Hair transplant surgery is generally safe, but some side effects can occur. Common ones include temporary swelling, redness, and mild discomfort in the treated areas, which subside within a few days. Scabbing and slight itching may occur as the scalp heals. Some patients experience temporary shock loss, where transplanted or surrounding hair sheds before re-growing naturally.

FAQ

We do not offer free consultations. Our consultation fee is £500, which reflects the in-depth, medically led approach we take to Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplants. This fee includes your initial consultation with a hair restoration specialist, along with all pre-operative assessments necessary to determine your suitability for FUE. These include:

  • A full medical history review and health screening

  • Blood tests (CBC, liver/kidney function, glucose levels, infection screening)

  • Scalp and donor area analysis, including hair density, calibre, and miniaturisation assessment

  • Digital imaging and graft planning

  • A personalised surgical plan tailored to your goals

Our aim is to ensure that every FUE procedure is safe, effective, and designed with long-term success in mind. This comprehensive assessment process allows us to deliver consistently high standards of care.

Hair transplant surgery is suitable for individuals with stable hair loss, such as androgenetic alopecia (male or female pattern baldness), who have a healthy donor area with sufficient hair follicles. It is ideal for those in good overall health and with realistic expectations about the results. However, it may not be suitable for individuals with severe diffuse thinning, alopecia areata, or scarring alopecia, as these conditions can affect both the donor and recipient areas. A consultation with our specialist is essential to assess your scalp, hair loss pattern, and determine if a transplant is the right option for you.

Hair transplant results take time to develop, and full growth is not visible immediately after one session. In the first few weeks, the transplanted hair may shed, which is a normal part of the process. New hair growth typically starts around 3-4 months, with noticeable improvement by 6 months. Full results, including thicker and natural-looking hair, usually appear within 6-12 months. The success of one session depends on the extent of hair loss and the number of grafts transplanted.

We provide a range of payment options to our customers across all treatments and products. We have “Buy Now Pay Later” schemes active via Paypal Credit and Klarna, where you’re also presented with the option to split payments. Alternatively, we offer the option to pay in 2 or 3 instalments for our treatment package bookings, depending on the cost of package and number of sessions involved. You can find out more about these options on our dedicated Payment Options page.

Yes, Calecim Hair Advanced stem cell serum can support healing and enhance results after a hair transplant. It contains growth factors and proteins derived from umbilical cord lining stem cells, which help reduce inflammation, speed up recovery, and create an optimal environment for hair follicle regeneration. When applied post-surgery, it may improve graft survival, strengthen existing hair, and promote healthier, faster hair growth. Regular use can also help reduce shedding and enhance scalp condition. While it is not a replacement for medical treatments, it can be a beneficial addition to post-transplant care for improved long-term results.

If you do not qualify for hair transplant surgery, there are alternative treatments available to help manage hair loss and improve scalp health. Options include PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy, which stimulates hair growth by using your own growth factors, and Calecim Hair Advanced Stem Cell Serum, which supports follicle regeneration and strengthens existing hair. medical-grade hair care, may also be suitable. At House of Saab, you can use your deposit towards any of these hair treatments from our range, ensuring you receive the best solution for your hair concerns.
