Condition
Circles Under Eyes
What are tired eyes / dark circles / eye bags?
The appearance of tired eyes are as the concern suggests; weary, heavy looking eyes that are often accompanied by dark circles and eye bags. Dark circles show as darkened skin or as shadowing under the eye area. When eye bags are present, puffiness or swelling beneath the lower lids may have developed. This condition usually appears as a person gets older and can affect both men and women.
What are the causes?
The ageing process affects the eyes as the skin loses volume and becomes thinner. The skin around the eyes is naturally more delicate in nature to begin with, which is why the eyes are often one of the first places where ageing shows its effects. As the skin weakens it becomes loose and can appear to sag beneath the eyes, which can create a pocket for which fatty deposits and fluid can tend to settle – developing to become eyebags. This distended look can cause a darkening to form, which can accentuate their appearance.
Dark circles can also be attributed to the thin skin beneath the eyes as the blood vessels become more noticeable. For some ethnicities naturally darker skin appears under the eyes by way of genetics.
