Thin Lips
What are thin lips?
The lips are often considered to be thin in appearance when the pink, or reddish tissue of the mouth is visible in small amounts. The appearance of the mouth and lips is unique to each and every person, with fuller lips often being a more desirable look, for both men and women of all ages.
What are the causes?
The appearance of the mouth and lips is often determined by genetics and is the primary reason why a person naturally possesses thin lips. For some adults, this feature can become less voluminous as they get older, for which the ageing process is the likely cause. As with the rest of the skin and tissue on the face and body, collagen and elastin starts to decline. This leads to a reduction in tissue density in the lips, which is less supported by the thinning skin and weakening structure that surrounds them.
When thin lips are an ageing-related concern, it is common for lines and wrinkles to also become visible.
